Universal singing new-media tune with free downloads

Universal Music has inked a two-year deal with SpiralFrog.com, New York, to set up an ad-supported Web site offering free downloads of its catalog of recordings and music videos. While users can download an unlimited number of songs or videos, the files will be compatible only with Windows-powered portable media players -- not iPods -- and will not be transferable to a CD or DVD.
