Advocates urge keeping pets out of cargo holds

The recent deaths of seven puppies in the cargo area of an airplane has brought new debate on the safety of sending animals via air travel. Some advocates urge pet owners to find other ways to transport their pets rather than shipping them in the cargo hold, including using an airline such as Pet Airways, where animals fly in the temperature-controlled cabin and are checked on by flight attendants every 15 minutes. Another alternative is to leave your pet with a friend or a sitter.
