New York's golden age of wine bars

New York has become home to a diverse mix of wine bars in recent years, many of which foster a sense of community in the neighborhoods they serve. Operators who would have opened full-service restaurants in better times are launching less costly wine bars instead. "A white-tablecloth restaurant costs a million dollars, but you can open a wine bar for only a few hundred thousand dollars," said Paul Grieco, owner of two wine bars.
