Oneworld joint venture is ready for long-delayed launch

American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia are scrambling to rationalize their frequent flier programs so passengers can earn and redeem mileage across all three carriers beginning in October. Reciprocal frequent flier mileage was made possible by the long-awaited approval for a trans-Atlantic joint venture among the three carriers, and executives say bigger changes are on the way, including coordinated schedules, new flights and "combinable" fares allowing passengers to fly different airlines on different legs of their journey.
