Demand for generators soars, but retailers expect returns

Hurricane Irene has led to a run on generators, as "it's not unusual to see 100,000 generators go out ... and I fully expect this storm to be similar," according to Briggs & Stratton CEO Todd J. Teske. But product marketers expect many customers will return their purchases once the situation normalizes. Some retailers accept returns of unused generators, while some impose charges on customers for used items.
