EU officials and bankers oppose recapitalisation idea

Officials and bankers in Europe rejected the idea of a fresh round of capitalisation for banks, as proposed by Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund. "There is no liquidity or collateral shortage for the European banking system," said Jean-Claude Trichet, president of the European Central Bank.
