Members of the Maryland Senate Finance Committee held a hearing on a plan by Gov. Martin O'Malley that would raise utility rates by $1.44 per month to offset the cost of an offshore-wind project. State Sen. Delores G. Kelley questioned O'Malley's personal link to one of the wind farm's potential developers, Michael R. Enright, who served as O'Malley's chief of staff. "It is unfortunate that [Maryland Offshore] has been tainted with this brush when there is no relationship between the leasing of the land and the state of Maryland," countered Jim Lanard, president of the Offshore Wind Development Coalition.
