Hold the phone! Chipset supply may limit new smartphones

Consumers may be getting excited about a number of new smartphones this fall, including an expected new iPhone model, but potentially dampening the enthusiasm is a looming shortage of the high-end chipsets these phones will use, writes Benjamin Pimentel. Nvidia and Qualcomm this year haven't been able to get enough chips with 28-nanometer features from their foundry, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing.
