Lawrence Summers and Janet Yellen, the leading contenders to succeed Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Federal Reserve, are exceptional candidates, but Yellen is better suited for the job under such economic conditions, according to The Economist. "Her cautious, consensus-building approach would minimise surprises (and financial-market volatility) as the current chairman has," the magazine says.
