Facebook reveals potential expansion of facial recognition

Facebook could add nearly all of its users' profile pictures to its expanding facial-recognition database in an effort to improve the performance of its suggested-tag feature. The potential move was revealed in a privacy-policy update the network released as part of a settlement of a class action lawsuit. "Our goal is to facilitate tagging so that people know when there are photos of them on our service," said Erin Egan, Facebook's chief privacy officer. "... Can I say that we will never use facial recognition technology for any other purposes? Absolutely not."
