IRS: Same-sex couples' incomes count as married for ACA subsidies

The IRS announced that legally married same-sex couples will be treated the same as legally married heterosexual couples for tax purposes, which includes determining eligibility for Medicaid and health insurance tax credits and subsidies under the Affordable Care Act. Coverage of a same-sex spouse through an employer's plan will not trigger income tax on the value of the coverage, according to new IRS guidance.
