New SAT requires strong writing skills

To prepare students for the new SAT, which includes an essay section, schools in the Charlotte, N.C., area are scrapping multiple choice exams in favor of more vocabulary, grammar and writing assignments. Test developer Bernie Phelan says students will need to approach the SAT writing test creatively and warns that a formulaic approach will backfire.
