Gene-sequencing technique detects drug-resistant strains

A group of researchers found that 454 Life Sciences' gene-sequencing technology can detect drug-resistant HIV mutations in patients at levels as low as 1% of the entire virus population in the blood. The application of the technique is expected to improve early detection of resistant strains among HIV patients.
