Richard Hyman, strategic retail adviser to Deloitte, says the traditional retail business model, with bricks-and-mortar businesses leading growth, is under extreme pressure and that retailers must recognise this fact. "There will still be excellent returns for those flexible enough to deal with change," Hyman writes. "Understanding customers and being able to anticipate what they want is critical. Becoming demand-driven will be the key challenge."
