Green groups hit the brakes as energy debate revs up

As the Senate prepares to take up climate change legislation, rallies last week, including an American Petroleum Institute-sponsored event in Elkhart, Ind., showed how much environmentalists have been slowed in the face of lobbying groups and skeptical public officials. Joseph Romm, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, says climate and green groups "slacked off" after the House passed its energy bill while "the other side really kept making its case."
