Indiana, Kentucky boast the most coal ash ponds

Indiana and Kentucky lead the nation in the largest number of coal ash ponds, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Three of Indiana's 53 ponds and 17 of Kentucky's 44 ponds were not designed by engineers, and other ponds were built without supervision by engineers. The EPA survey also found spotty inspections of the coal ash ponds by state regulators.
