New cybersecurity bill seeks to expand executive powers

The White House would have the authority to declare a cyber emergency and direct responses in the case of a cyber attack, under the terms of a new bill currently working its way through the Senate. The bill had previously contained language that would have authorized the president to shut down the Internet in response to an online attack, but according to this article, the latest version of the measure appears to "tone down" that language.
