U.S. efforts to examine nanotechnology safety are criticized as lax

The federal government is facing growing criticism for its failed efforts to research the possible health or environmental effects of nanotechnology. An expert this week separately praised the Consumer Product Safety Commission for its efforts to assess nanotechnology. However, he said, the resources available for assessing the technology's effects are "negligible" compared with the amount of money dedicated to bringing nanotechnology-based products to the marketplace.
