Makers of cell phones and technology companies are getting increasingly serious about the Chinese market. Sony Ericsson Chief Executive Officer Bert Nordberg said that he expects smartphone penetration to reach 50% of all mobile-phone users in the country by 2015 and that the vendor will join rivals in focusing on higher-end phones. Motorola, meanwhile, has introduced a next-generation version of its Ming phone that features Chinese handwriting technology and has launched a Chinese version of its application store. And, Qualcomm is also taking steps to compete in the market.
