More California schools meet NCLB targets; some districts still struggling

The California state Department of Education yesterday released preliminary data showing that 64% of its 9,100 public schools met test score goals outlined in No Child Left Behind, up from 54% last year. However, 18 districts across the state failed to meet benchmarks for the second year in a row, which puts them at risk for state takeover or sanctions.
