Gustav exposes flaws in New Orleans levees

Although Hurricane Gustav did not cause major damage or flooding in New Orleans, the weakened hurricane exposed some flaws in the levee system. Water overflowed the top of the Industrial Canal, and caused minor flooding in the Ninth Ward. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to build a barrier for the Industrial Canal, but construction will not finish until 2011.
