As global airlines struggle, North American carriers see improvement

Fifty airlines around the world lost a combined $2 billion in the second quarter, bringing 2009 first-half losses to more than $6 billion. While Asian and European airlines reported growing losses for the quarter, carriers in both North and South America saw their losses shrink compared to the same period last year.
