Manufacturing expands again, while construction sags

An industry index showed manufacturing increased to 56.3 in August from 55.5 the prior month -- the 13th consecutive month for expansion. However, a separate report by the Department of Commerce found construction spending reached its lowest point in a decade, falling 1% to $805 billion in July, the third straight month of declines and twice as much as expected.
