Manufacturing expands again, while construction sags

An industry index shows that manufacturing increased to 56.3 in August, compared with 55.5 the previous month, the 13th consecutive month for expansion. However, a separate report by the Department of Commerce shows that construction spending reached its lowest point in a decade, falling 1% to $805 billion in July, the third straight month of decline and twice as much as expected.
