More scrutiny is urged for Vermont Yankee's shutdown fund

Vermont must improve its accounting of the money intended to defray the cost of Vermont Yankee's decommissioning, according to a report issued Tuesday by Tom Salmon, the state's auditor. Vermont should review the funds more than once every five years to ensure that there will be enough to cover the nuclear plant's eventual closure and the disposal of hazardous wastes, Salmon said.
