Traditional tax-exempt bonds offer better yields, a study shows

Build America Bonds have reduced financing costs for municipalities, but traditional tax-exempt bonds continue to offer individual investors more attractive after-tax yields, according to a study by the National Bureau of Economic Research. The research shows that state and local governments saved an average of 54 basis points each year by issuing BABs rather than other types of tax-exempt bonds.
