The Department of Energy has issued a $12 million grant to three small-scale projects in Illinois, North Carolina and Wisconsin that seek to develop technologies for advanced drop-in biofuels and renewable chemicals. LanzaTech, Research Triangle Institute and Virent Energy Systems will each get up to $4 million. "Producing advanced, drop-in biofuels in the U.S. will reduce America's dependence on foreign oil and support development of a new industry that will create jobs in rural communities across the country," said Energy Secretary Steven Chu.
