Swap white rice with beans to cut diabetes risk, experts say

Adults in Costa Rica who substituted a serving of beans for a serving of white rice were 35% less likely to show markers of metabolic syndrome than those who ate more white rice, according to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Researchers said beans contain more fiber and protein and have a lower glycemic index compared with white rice, which is pure starch.
