Updated guidelines issued for first UTI in febrile infants, children

The AAP has published updated guidelines in the journal Pediatrics for treating initial urinary tract infection in febrile children ages 2 to 24 months. The guidelines include revised criteria for diagnosis and imaging recommendations. The meta-analysis on which the guidelines were based showed oral antimicrobial and parenteral therapy were equally effective while voiding cystourethrography was not advisable for an initial UTI, among other findings.
