Study: Wireless technology helps determine patients' surgical recovery time

Step data collected through a Fitbit activity tracker could help hospitals predict the recovery time of patients who undergo cardiac surgery, according to a study in the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. Researchers wrote that acquiring data using wireless technology can streamline information transfer in the hospital and give the entire surgical team access to mobility information usually only found in nurses' notes. The research also revealed how patient mobility correlated to length of hospital stay.
