China sees MP3 player sales fall more than 40%

The retail trifecta of market saturation, falling prices and intensifying competition led to revenue from MP3 player sales in China falling more than 40% in the first half of the year, according to a report from Beijing-based CCID Consulting. While sales in urban areas fueled a robust MP3 industry from 2002 to 2007, first-time purchases in rural areas and small cities are expected to carry the weight in the future, the report added.
