Higher costs force rethinking of Denver's FasTracks plan

When Denver voters approved a ballot initiative to fund FasTracks in 2004, the budget for the light rail project was estimated at $4.7 billion. With mushrooming construction costs, the figure today stands at $7.9 billion, forcing officials to look at making cuts to the program. The initial completion date of 2017 could be pushed back to 2034, or FasTracks could scale back the planned routes.
