AT&T beefs up 3G network in New York, suburbs

AT&T will deploy 850-MHz spectrum at more than 1,600 cell towers in New York City; Long Island, N.Y.; and New Jersey to extend its 3G network in the area, the company said. The carrier also disclosed that it would provide free Wi-Fi service to users of Windows Mobile-powered phones at more than 20,000 U.S. hot spots this fall.
