Medical home with HIT may help address provider shortage

A patient-centered medical home model that employs health IT may help address the shortage of medical providers in the country while reducing costs and improving care, according to a study conducted by the Group Health Cooperative. The approach led to a 29% decrease in emergency room visits, 11% decrease in hospitalizations and 6% fewer in-person provider visits, the study showed.
