Microsoft sets Oct. 6 for mobile OS upgrade

Microsoft did not reveal specific handsets that would include its new Windows Mobile 6.5 when the updated operating system launches Oct. 6, but the company said Hewlett-Packard, HTC, LG Electronics, Samsung and Toshiba have pledged to embed the software on their devices. The upgrade is designed to provide a simpler interface, with new touch-screen technology, an updated browser and a synchronization feature, among other additional features.
