Telecoms, Cablevision eye Wi-Fi on NYC commuter trains

The race is on among wireless carriers and cable company Cablevision Systems to provide Wi-Fi service on trains that funnel 750,000, mainly affluent, commuters from the suburbs into New York. Verizon Communications, Sprint Nextel, AT&T and more than a dozen other companies have submitted plans to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which said it would likely put the contract out to bid.
