AVMA stresses need for including pets in emergency plans

In observance of September as National Preparedness Month, the AVMA joins the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Ready Campaign in reminding Americans to start devising emergency plans to protect not only themselves but also their pets and livestock in the event of a disaster. "It is often too late to react properly to an emergency or disaster -- either natural or man-made -- after the fact, and things become even more hectic when pets or other animals are involved," AVMA President Dr. Larry Kornegay said.
