Escondido hospital a laboratory for new LEED guidelines

The $940 million Palomar Medical Center West in Escondido, Calif., is halfway to the finish line. Construction workers are busy erecting the building, which will include 360 patient rooms, 60 emergency rooms and 12 operating rooms. The hospital is an experiment in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design guidelines, as the certification group prepares its "Green Guide for Health Care" rating system.
