FDA probe into egg recall widens

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said Wednesday that the investigation into what triggered the salmonella outbreak that prompted a massive egg recall now includes the agency's criminal division and the Justice Department. The FDA was collaborating with the two Iowa egg producers linked to the recall "to make sure that they clean up the subpar practices, that eggs do not go back into the marketplace that are not safe," Hamburg added.
