HP triumphs in 3PAR bidding war

Hewlett-Packard has succeeded in outbidding Dell for data-storage company 3PAR, agreeing to pay $2.4 billion -- three times its stock price before the bidding war began. HP is banking on the acquisition to give it an edge in large-scale enterprise computing, but some say it may have paid too much. "We thought the price Dell originally offered was already pretty rich," said Shaw Wu, analyst with Kaufman Bros.
