Manufacturing output in the U.K. posts a surprise slowdown

Britain's manufacturing output slowed in August, surprising economists after the sector showed strength earlier in the year. The Markit/Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index declined from 56.9 in July to 54.3 last month. New orders took their biggest one-month drop in more than six years.
