Self-insurance could help your small business save on health care costs, writes Rieva Lesonsky, citing new data that show the number of smaller firms that self-insure has risen dramatically in the past two years. Self-insurance comes with some short-term risks, experts say, but it can allow employers to more closely tailor plans to their employees and avoid some state taxes and other costs.
