Small firms cut 6,000 jobs in August, ADP says

Small businesses cut jobs overall in August, according to data from ADP. Businesses in the goods-producing sector cut 21,000 jobs, which was offset by a gain of 15,000 jobs in the service sector. Data from Intuit this week showed that small businesses added 26,000 jobs last month, a slower gain than in recent months. Both firms base their data on their own payroll customers.
