50% of Americans will have a mental health problem, CDC projects

A report from the CDC says that about 25% of Americans experienced mental illness in the past year, and experts project that about half will suffer a form of mental illness in their lifetime. The cost of mental illness, including treatment and lost productivity, was roughly $300 billion in 2002.
