Treatment options for pets and people with cancer have advanced greatly during the past 20 years, and today veterinarians have a mix of options including surgery and targeted chemotherapy that offer pets' longer lives, writes veterinary oncologist Gerald Post. New vaccines and medicines including antibiotics are also available to help keep animals more comfortable during treatment, he writes.
