3D scanner standards could come in less than a year

ASTM International and the National Institute of Standards and Technology have proposed midrange 3D laser scanner standards that would apply to "range and volumetric performance of laser-based, scanning, time-of-flight, 3D imaging systems in the medium range -- capable of operating within at least a portion of the range from 2 meters to 150 meters," Dan McGovern writes. Separately, federal building projects are being required to use a laser-based building information model standard.
