Consumers buy more big-ticket items as economy improves

Consumers are investing more in high-end items such as appliances and quality clothing as the economy rebounds, analysts say. "People are starting to look for good investments," said Deanna Inglert, a manager at Virginia-based Sterling Appliance, which has seen an increase in sales of big-ticket items including stainless steel appliances.
