Physical education, activity are both important for children

Physical education is no longer a one-size-fits-all program as teachers use fun and creative activities, such as indoor rock climbing and Zumba, to keep children active regardless of the weather, fitness experts said. Physical activity and physical education are each important and not interchangeable, said Jessica Matthews of the American Council on Exercise, because phy ed teaches children to refine their motor skills and learn new abilities and lays the framework for a lifetime of fitness.
