Voluntary safety standards in the works for laundry packets

Regulators are pressing manufacturers to create voluntary safety standards for laundry detergent packets following reports of children ingesting them. "This is a newer laundry innovation, and it's so easy for everyone to be on autopilot and not think about the product that they are holding in their hands," said American Cleaning Institute spokeswoman Nancy Bock. Industry has begun working on voluntary consensus standards, and ACI recently launched a safety campaign to raise awareness about laundry-packet safety.
