Writing narratives can help students think like historians

Guiding students can help them make connections between historical themes and events and think critically about the past, history teachers Jody Passanisi and Shara Peters write in this blog post. They provide an example of a gallery walk, in which primary sources are studied like detectives looking for clues to use to create narratives. The teachers brought in personal items to share in class and let the students draw their own conclusions about their initially unknown subject -- their teachers.
